Pixel Art of Prowler My name is Klas Benjaminsson and go by the alias Prowler as pixel artist. I create retro pixel art, mainly in fantasy and sci-fi settings with low resolutions and a limited palette. I have been active creating pixel art since this medium started to emerge in the late 80s. This is a selection with 10 of my pixel art images. Achievements: 1st place Revision graphics competition 2017. 1st place Datastorm graphics competition 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2019. 1st place Compusphere graphics competition 2018. 1st place csdb.dk graphics competition 2018. 1st place Gerp graphics competition 2015. 1st place Little Computer People graphics competition 2009. Publications: Generation 500 (2017). The Master of Pixel Art vol 2 (2016). The Master of Pixel Art vol 1 (2016). Freax the Art Album (2007). Exhibitions & Projects: Masters of Pixel Art exhibition (2017 - curator, opening seminar and participant. Suomen pelimuseo, Vapriikki Tampere/Finland). Nicepixel Awards (2018 - organizer, judge committee). Shibuya Pixel Art Contest (2021 - judge committee). Memory Limits (2022 - participant). In recent years I have founded and created a book series to present pixel art in printed fashion, entitled "The Masters of Pixel Art". These can be found on nicepixel.se. The books have so far featured more than 120 different artists from all over the globe. In this context, I have made seminars, curated an exhibition and arranged competitions about pixel art. Images and info can be found on Instagram and Twitter. In 2018 the Nicepixel Awards was started to honour the previous year of pixel art releases. Check out the presentation and the results. |

Shattered Harmony (2011) 320 x 256 pixels - 64 colours - placed 1st in the graphics competition at Datastorm. An attempt to merge blocks (or polygons) of pixels into the rock transformation - mixing the natural elements into the statue-like angel. |
|
Northstar (2019) 320 x 256 pixels - 32 colours - placed 1st in the graphics competition at Datastorm. The most northern point is the home of the mighty mountain eagles. The Northstar jewel is given away to seal the bond between rider and beast. |

Singh-Raha (2009) 320 x 256 pixels - 32 colours - placed 1st in the graphics competition at Little Computer People. During a trip to India I met this train conductor. The idea was to use patterns instead of gradients, taking advantage of the pixel art medium. |

White Dream (2015) 320 x 256 pixels - 32 colours - placed 1st in the graphics competition at Gerp. For some time now I have been dreaming all in white... the owl's eye is burning in the mind. A friend of mine pointed out that the owl's markings are typical of those of a forest owl, while a mountain owl would usually have white or grey markings. I hate realising facts like these after completing a picture. |

Elements of Green (2013) 320 x 256 pixels - 32 colours - placed 1st in the graphics competition at Datastorm. The idea was to visualize the 3 elements of the forest and make them blend into the woods seamlessly. Check out the time-lapse video for a show of the creation of this piece. |

Lo-Fi Rose (2017) 320 x 256 pixels - 32 colours Title logo for music disk "Chiperia" #7, released at Revision 2017. |

Got Nuts?! (2017) 320 x 256 pixels - 32 colours - placed 1st in the graphics competition at Revision 2017. The original idea was to incorporate the patterns (as can be seen in the top left part of the image) into the entire forest setting. Yet again I lost focus of the initial concept and continued with a more traditional blurry version to make the forest act as background instead. |

Crystaleyezed (2019) 160 x 200 pixels interlaced - 16 colours - placed 6th in the graphics competition at ZOO 2019. Based on an old photo, worked with colour and shape contrasts. |
|
Strikeforce (2014) 160 x 200 pixels interlaced - 16 colours - placed 2nd in the graphics competition at Datastorm 2014. I tried to work with hard shapes and cold colours with the eagle, attacking the warmer round forms of the snake. I was quite happy with the result. Check out the time-lapse video for a show of the creation of this piece. |

Two-faced (2018) 320 x 256 pixels - 32 colours - placed 1st in the graphics competition at Compusphere 2018. Went for the darkness (death) vs light (life) contrast in this one, more or less made as a compo-picture from the start. Skull came out like intended. Female face also OK except for the hair, damn it's hard to do any smooth vertical curves... The circles in the bottom sides was an idea for some chain-like graphics, for the first (unused) title "Chain of life". |
